Had you been awake during your physics class, you would have heard of Tesla, the standard unit of magnetic induction. Magnetic what? Never mind the physics and come check out the hamlet of Smiljan and the birthplace of Nikola Tesla, the Croatian electrical genius who lit the world. Explore the completely restored and superbly put together childhood house and the adjacent museum devoted to the life and inventions of Nikola Tesla. Watch the first remote control boat ever built in action. Play in a futuristic children's playground. Bet you didn't know that back in 1895 George Westinghouse and Nikola Tesla built the world's first large-scale hydro-electric power plant at Niagara Falls, which thrust the world into a new era. Did we mention that Tesla's contributions to science and technology span over 280 patents, including the invention of radio, television, radio-astronomy, remote control (for men only), robotics, radar, medical x-ray, electric generator, electric motor, fluorescent lighting, alternating current (AC), and the wireless transmission of electricity.
