The year is 1715 AD. The Ottoman Empire (1299–1923) is in its heyday, spanning three continents, and forging ahead throughout the Central and Southeastern Europe. The Croats in Sinj – outgunned and outmanned by a ratio of at least 10:1 – brace for the imminent Turkish assault. Thanks to the state-of-the-art Knighthood Museum of Sinj, you get to relive the ensuing battle between the Croats and Turks. Moreover, the museum’s full-size dioramas and cutting-edge interactive displays allow both young and old to relish the exquisite details of the 300-year-old knights tournament called Sinjska Alka, which commemorates the famed battle and is inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List (the actual tournament takes place each year on the 1st weekend in August). Find out if you qualify to take part in the Alka tourney. If you are interested in medieval history, armor, knighthood, chivalry, jousting or equestrian, don’t hold your horses, giddyup inside!
